inspiration book

I really found so many of the books to be inspiring, but I loved david's book because it had a big range of pictures and it was from all points of views. I loved cathy's book too, because you could look at it and relate to where she was and I loved it for that reason. everyone did such a good job with their books and all the hard work really paid off!!!

Ideas for a later date................

I really couldn't fit in half of the photos that I had taken, but I am looking to add more images to my camp pendleton book and the start a new theme for a new book. I really like having a physical item in my hand after all the hard work, instead of paper that I will never read again and neither will anyone else. Photos are always relevant and so I am thinking for my next book, I will do some photographs on either the topic of nature that is meshed with construction, buildings, or man made items or I willl do a book on the the trash that always see lying around or caught up in weird places such as the photo with the paaper stuck in the barbwire fence above. Either way, this blog is done for now and i'm on to a new book and WAY more to learn about photography!

Ordover Gallery/Solana beach

Iwent to the Ordover Gallery in Solana beach and it was artists that did fine art and there were so many artists displayed. I loved to see all the artwork. Usually I am used to seeing more work such as the when I go to the museum of contemporary art in La Jolla because of the contemporary art installations, but I really also enjoy looking at other people's photography because it just gives me different angles, lighting and perspectives to think about when I am out photographing things. This semester has been my first ever taking photos and I think I have so much to learn and at this point, other people's work really inspires me and makes me want to try ideas and techinques that they have mastered. I have so much to learn, but I think going to these museums and just experiencing different viewpoints on what photography can look like is something that I think every person just learning should really consider doing. one of my favorite was one of them called gasoline by abe ordover. I love this concept because it reminded me of past experiences as a child when I saw oil, gasoline, or substances that didn't mix right and you could see all the colors and it intrigued me then and it still is a pretty sight to see. It's like he's captured a rainbow in water with the effects in his work. I don't know if he put filters on his work or not, but I love the way the colors are brilliant. Besides that, this gallery was smaller than expected, but great in it's own way. ( I still like the musuems in Balboa park....WAY more ) The other picture shown is also by abe Ordover is one of his that is of lake powell.

Underneath the bridge. Camp pendleton/San Onofre

This picture, I added to my book because it's one of my favorites. I love the way I found the rope just laying across the layers and layers of bridge. I used a posterization filter to really bring a different look to the wood out and I played with all the colors. I really love the vibrance of this photo and I wish I knew exactly how to make some of my photos look like this one. I'm still learning so much about photoshop, so it's a different outcome everytime, with every new picture that I am faced with editing.

Jo Whaley

I had to add this image to my blog also because I just really love this piece of art!

Jo Whaley/Musuem of photographic art

When I had gone to the Museum of photographic arts in Sept, I saw many amazing photographs but the one that I remember now as I write this and that stood out to me, was work by Jo Whaley. Her images of butterflies and the time she takes to bring together the photo with the medium of paint and work with different mediums to bring out a piece of art work as she does is quite inspiring and it makes me want to learn more about the process. My favorite part about her work are the colors that she uses. She uses a huge range from duller and older looking colors and images, to bright and radiant colors. I think she's just really interested in the small details of a butterfly from looking at her work and then possibly she's seemingly interested in the small details of bugs, because of the beatles in her work also. I like the way some people just breeze over the small things in life, and then some people stop to see the intricate details and bring them to our attention. Her work really focuses on the small things, that many people, including myself just don't have the time to stop and notice. Her work makes you want to take some time to see the small things we pass everyday.

Book photo

This is one of two pictures that I edited and placed in my book, but did not take myself. My husband took this picture, of Marines on the way to afghanistan March 2009'. I edited the colors and cropped it slightly but I had to use it in my book because it was just an amazing photo.

Ordover Gallery/Natural History Museum/Balboa

When I went to Ordover Galley in Balboa, it was amazing to see all the work and the amazing shots that some photographers were able to get. It was all about Baja, California and included so many photos that you would never have expected. The digital photogrpahers in this exhibit showed many sides of that area that I had never seen before. When I walked in, it was amazing, but when I left I felt inspired to go out and shoot some photos and want to know more about my camera and what it could do and I could do to get so much more out of my pictures. One person that really inspired me was flip nicklin, because of the vibrance of the photos and the amazing sea life pictures we shot. What I loved too about his work is that light shines through water and it's always pretty to see, but the way the light shines through and bounces off his subjects, such as the dolphins is just something that only a true photographer would capture because i'm sure it took a million "okay" pictures to get some the truly breathtaking photos he has today. I've always been afraid of things such as scuba diving, and underwater life, but he makes you think twice about what's really under the water and the beauty that we are missing when we don't explore. When I got home, I looked up some of his images, because I was so amazed by his work, but my favorite was his photos of dolphins. (Bottlenose dolpins, in Hawaii)

Book FINISHED

Finally I sent my book to blurb to get printed. I am very exited to see what the pictures will look like printed out. I know they always look different from on the computer screen. I am planning on using this book as a test run and then printing more and giving a few to family for christmas, so they can see some images of camp pendleton and some of the atmosphere that's around us, as we are based here in california. Below is a link to my book.

Collier Schorr

Collier Schorr is a photographer that really concentrated on the male figure and body and the sport of wrestling really intrigued her as she chose these moments. She shows in her work and through her words that she's interested in the way men are tired or more exhausted after the act of wrestling or hard work. She also did work that concentrated on the holocaust, which is depressing but again one of those photographers that don't just take a pretty picture but show the world a history of what happened insead of forgetting the past. She's a pretty good photographer all in all even though her style is not like many that I've seen.

James Nachwey

James Nachway was a war photographer that took pictures that capture the real and horrile moments that happen and we just don't want to see. I would post a picture of his work on my blog, but it's so hard to look at those photos that I just don't want to see them multiple times, so I am just posting his image. I think his work is something that really makes a difference in our world because he shows the world what happens in other countries in a time of war or harship and he does it in a way that makes people want to do something and get involved in some way to help. If photography can do anything, it needs to be able to move people to be active, get involved and be concious of what is happening outside of their world. I think James has a strong will to get the word out about people in need, and he must have a stong mind to be able to handle all the things in which he sees and deals with in taking these photographs.

Panoramic: Redlands

I took this pano out in the redlands area about 3 weeks ago. The picture is darker on the right side than the left, but it was early morning and the sun was just creeping up behind the mountain. Only one side of the mountain is lit up, but I still really like this picture. I will keep in mind, lighting next time though!

Wheels of a Tank on CP

I used this photo as my cover for my book. I really like it because it was one of my first attempts working with manual focus, and I really brightened up the colors from the dull color it was originally.

Marines on CP

This was taken on camp pendleton after some marines got off work. I loved the old building behind these guys as they were walking. I think the yellow in the road really stands out as well. I bet they thought I was creepy taking their picture, but it was just one of those moments that I had to get!

Motor Transport Area on CP: Sandbags

Sandbags on CP. really simple, but the sunset was just really lighting up these plain ugly old sandbags. I just liked the way they were sitting, all stacked out in the middle of nowhere. especially with the blue sky contrasting the color of the bags.

Blue bench: Lake O'neill . Before & after

Camp Pendleton: Lake O'neill. Before & After color moderation

CP: Old steps to edge of the dock

Camp Pendleton: Air station at sunset

Camp Pendleton: Near Air station. Cobra Helicopter

Camp Pendleton: Del Mar Beach

Book Project

My book is going to be about trying to capture the life and spirit of camp pendleton. There's so much to it that people don't even know about it because it's like a different world than the usual. It's quiet, loud, busy, and slow all at the same time. So many places are beautiful and it seems like a world away from the rest. There's a certain safety and serenity and I hope to catch all the timelessness of this base. Basically.....that's it :)

I see the focus is completely not in the right spot. Just a learning process....

Can't choose which look I like better with this pic

Book ; camp pendleton

I decided that book is going to be about camp pendleton. I went out today and just started taking pictures of things that seemed, old, odd, or just interesting to look at :)

Roni Horn

Roni Horn doesn't walk the straight and narrow regular path to art, but is experimental in her work and extremely unique. With her work, she doesn't just create art, but transforms the room with her images. She works with the rooms dimensions to create a space where her art captures the viewers attention in multiple ways. I like the way her portraits showed so much emotion and they were truly good shots that captured feeling. Besides that she's interesting and some of the work was a bit crazy at times!

Jim Bradenburg

Jim Bradenburg had a project where he only took one frame a day for 90 days. He captures the nature around him and the wildlife as some what of preservation of what he loves. He would often spend hours out in the woods, water, etc to get these pictures. Photography is his talent in so many ways and he shares his talent to save the wildness around him for himself and others by displaying his images in a national geographic magazine. In this video you could see the passion that he had to be able to sit and wait for the wolves to come around and the respect that he had for the wilderness and the viewers when he took special care, while photographing the deer that had been killed. His work inspires you to capture the beauty around you and not feel as though the beauty of the world is far off, but may be right in your backyard!

Sally Mann

Sally Mann is a photographer who would often use her children as her subjects until she felt everything started looking like advertisements and then she started to capture the beauty of the landscape around her. She had most or all photos in black and white and although not all the pictures were beautiful, they caught your attention and drew you in. I can understand why some people wouldn't be very fond of her because she has a rough personality and the photos of her children naked are really not "normal" in this day and age. I think she has an extremely good eye for a photo that just captures the beauty around her but it's hard to love the photo when the children seemed so taken advantage of as subjects. They didn't want to constantly take photos and be there for their mother's benefit. Other than that she seems like a good photographer, but not so special of a person. :(

Rick Smolan

Rick Smolan......never heard of him before today and yet he's one of those people that inspire you, not to take the best pictures to sell or advertise, but live for the adventure of it all. He seemed to keep all his options open and just progressed through the years in his willingness to just let life come at him in anyways way, shape, or form. Rick seemed to just have a love for photography in any form that it would come at him and it just inspires me to take any opportunites with eyes wide open and jump in, whether it seems to be a good idea or bad. The thing that I loved the most about him is that he has a urge in his soul to just change the world with his photography. He wants to open that closed door and show the world what's really going on and for that I find him to be an incredibly amazing person. It's one thing to want to take photos to make money, impress, or self fullfull....it's completely another to want to help someone else in the world by the telling the real story with just a photo of the raw, real world.
