Sally Mann

Sally Mann is a photographer who would often use her children as her subjects until she felt everything started looking like advertisements and then she started to capture the beauty of the landscape around her. She had most or all photos in black and white and although not all the pictures were beautiful, they caught your attention and drew you in. I can understand why some people wouldn't be very fond of her because she has a rough personality and the photos of her children naked are really not "normal" in this day and age. I think she has an extremely good eye for a photo that just captures the beauty around her but it's hard to love the photo when the children seemed so taken advantage of as subjects. They didn't want to constantly take photos and be there for their mother's benefit. Other than that she seems like a good photographer, but not so special of a person. :(

Rick Smolan

Rick Smolan......never heard of him before today and yet he's one of those people that inspire you, not to take the best pictures to sell or advertise, but live for the adventure of it all. He seemed to keep all his options open and just progressed through the years in his willingness to just let life come at him in anyways way, shape, or form. Rick seemed to just have a love for photography in any form that it would come at him and it just inspires me to take any opportunites with eyes wide open and jump in, whether it seems to be a good idea or bad. The thing that I loved the most about him is that he has a urge in his soul to just change the world with his photography. He wants to open that closed door and show the world what's really going on and for that I find him to be an incredibly amazing person. It's one thing to want to take photos to make money, impress, or self fullfull....it's completely another to want to help someone else in the world by the telling the real story with just a photo of the raw, real world.
